Supper Last Night/

For supper last night, we had somen and the leftover pan-fried pork slices with onion slices and sesame sauce.
The sesame sauce was:
4 tbsp white sesame seeds, ground
2 tbsp soy sauce
2 tbsp vinegar
1 tsp sugar
You must have a lot of pork to survive the hot and HUMID summer in Japan!

I served the somen in a bamboo sieve.
Somen is usually served in a bowl of cold water (or iced water).

I added some (about 1 tsp) vinegar and a few ice cubes in my usual dipping sauce (5:1:1 mixture of dashi, soy sauce, and mirin).

Hiroyuki, do you mean pork is good for the hot and humid weather? It would be an excuse for me to enjoy more pork now! (Although it's not really humid here... but hot and heavy....)
Another idea for onion sauce... I will also keep it in mind. I love sesame and put it practically everywhere.

Very translucent onions! What method do you use to cook them, if they are cooked?

Sissi: Pork is said to be effective against summer heat (at least in Japan) because it contains a lot of vitamin B1!

CFT: Just thinly slice the onion! I use a cheap slicer bought at the 100-yen shop. (Is it called a mandoline or a benriner where you live?)

Hiroyuki, I was always saying pork is not as bad as people think! I love pork, eat it quite often (more often than most Swiss or French at least), so I must have lots of vitamin B1! I only try to limit the fat pork of course.
By the way, I also use often the cheap mandoline, but for your previous salad with katsuobushi I simply cut very thinly the onion. (I have made it once more today, this time photos are more or less presentable, I will post it next week!)

Sissi: In Japan, pork is regarded as a healthy food.

After all, a good balance among cereal, meat, vegetables, and fruit is important, right?

fred: So, this brand is exported to your country? No wonder because the brand is No. 1 Somen of Nisshin Foods!

Hiroyuki, I think I like Japanese attitude towards food even more now ;-)
